EpicDermis – A 60-minute dance piece for 5 dancers
Premiere: 23.9.2022
Man is a homo hapticus. The sense of touch and feeling is the first of our senses. Even before we hear, smell and taste, we feel, we sense touch. EpicDermis is a border crossing, a dance across the skin. The skin is man’s largest organ – and at the same time his sensitive border between self and world. Every touch is as much a sign of affection as it is an indication of potential danger. Every touch tells a story about the familiar, about the foreign, tells a story in which the self seeks its place in the world. Every touch spells out a haptic vocabulary, full of power and longing, full of hurt and care. The “touchless society” (Elisabeth von Tadden) is entangled in a paradox: The longing for independence and unboundedness reflected in increasing singularisation turns into contactless isolation – the untouched human being as an isolated monad of a hypersensitive society. EpicDermis also speaks out against this horror, tells of the pleasurable exploration of the world, tells of the survival necessity of being touched.
