Efecto Mariposa

A 65 minute dance piece for 5 dancers and a live musician.

Even the slightest beat makes mountains tremble elsewhere: “Efecto mariposa”, the butterfly effect is the name of the latest production of the “Cooperativa Maura Morales”. The phenomenon, first described by American mathematician Edward Norton Lorenz in his chaos theory, explains the vastness and enormous resonance of often only the smallest impulses: “Can the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil trigger a tornado in Texas?”
A sensitive game, a subtle choreography around dependency and around the often unexpected consequences of our actions has thus emerged. Everything can be a beginning, a beginning with an infinite end. The magic of uncertainty determines every step: unknown people become accomplices, a shy sound in the room becomes music, a casual touch becomes dance, and a cautious glance quickly becomes a fixating judgment. Life means rubbing up against chaos: “Efecto mariposa” is also a plea for sensual presence, for the power of seeing, hearing, feeling impulses – and dancing with them.
